Enter the HabitatHQ - Tim Dive's recruitment realities

Enter the HabitatHQ

Welcome to the second edition of 'Enter the HabitatHQ'! This week you'll get to know entrepreneur and Workplace Advisory Specialists Director Tim Dive. Get the scoop on hiring in the post-COVID labour market and learn why Workplace Advisory Specialists love HabitatHQ's meeting room facilities.

Tim Dive - Workplace Advisory Specialists

Tim Dive honed his advisory skillset over the past 16 years, through extensive experience across operational and people orientated roles. Tim commenced his career in the recruitment sector, and later pivoted into industrial relations, ultimately undertaking internal positions with BHP & Santos. Tim has successfully managed Union relationships across mining, oil and gas, engineering and construction operations, navigated HR & employment law disputes, and ultimately developed a speciality in managing higher risk cases and executing major changes to workforces via restructures and organisation design. Tim has gone on to advise small to large organisations in many sectors, and created a service facilitating career transition counselling for senior and corporate executives.

What makes Workplace Advisory, Specialists?

Workplace Advisory Specialists develop organisational capability at all levels, effective workforce structures, organisation design, operational workflows, leadership mentoring, and performance management training for a diverse client base. Workplace Advisory Specialists spend quality time onsite partnering with people to ensure successful transformation to better operations.

The nature of the workplace consulting industry sees competitors adopt a propensity for ‘basic compliance’ and collecting subscription fees in return for achieving quite a simple outcome. In contrast, Workplace Advisory Specialists differentiate themselves by placing a strong focus on creating, building, and keeping capability within organisations, going far beyond ‘basic compliance’.

Experience Share - Hiring in the post COVID labour market

Until the pandemic, workplace surveys highlighted the labour force’s desire for flexibility and work from home privileges. With COVID forcing flexible work to become BAU across all sectors, the labour market is now showing signs that it is predominantly driven by wages.

With this in mind, Tim advised that many companies are still undertaking costly initiatives to present Employer Value Propositions based on employee benefits. Unfortunately, the value of such add-ons to candidates is dwindling, organisations that have the capacity to re-allocate budget spend to wages will be the successful ones to attract the best new talent. At least in the immediate term. Tim noted that whilst it is still important to promote the fundamental value proposition of your business, he recommends focussing on what you’re already good at rather than what you’re working towards.

Why does Workplace Advisory love HabitatHQ?

Workplace Advisory Specialists feel proud to bring clients back to the HabitatHQ meeting rooms, as the professional fit out and cafe facilities enable an equally professional consultation. Tim notes two of their clients ultimately joined HabitatHQ in their own coworking office spaces… will you be next?

Remote work doesn’t work for everyone and heading down to your local “Habitat” might be the best solution for you. In 2020, in-person interaction was replaced with Zoom meetings, Skype calls or Microsoft Teams catch-ups. However, come 2021, many businesses have come to the realisation that an agile work environment is only conducive for particular roles within the business or certain types of individuals.
